The poi retreat will include 6 or 13 nights of accommodation at a private resort, 2 hours of instructional poi every morning and 2 hours of practice time and personal instruction every afternoon, M-F.  Also included is a waterfall hike, a boat trip to the beautiful Isla Tortuga with snorkelling, a Friday night fire show in Montezuma in which you can show off your new moves in front of a crowd (optional but awesome!), transportation to town and back each day (only 1/2 km, but up a steep hill), some built in down time to hit the beach, canopy tour, go surfing, etc., and more.

Classes will be held on a hilltop overlooking Montezuma with an inspirational ocean view.

This will be best for those who can play freely with the basics already. If you don't know all the basics, don't worry, you can follow along with Play Poi's beginner series, and prepare yourself ahead of time!

The curriculum will include but won't be limited to the following:

• Advanced control of planes
• Variations of poi movement: Isolations, extensions, pendulum, inspin, antispin, etc.
• Freedom of movement and expression
• Stalls and speeds
• Variations of flowers
• Rhythm and Timing
• Focus points and mode switching
• Cubes and orbing
• Linking and tracing
• Using Focus points for turns, whirling, and beautifying paterns
• Pirouettes, Whriling, and moving in circles, arcs, and lines on the floor
• Creating Visual illusions with Poi (Bullet time stops, relative stalls, contact-style manipulation)
• Body alignment and conditioning

• Behing-the-Back Weaves
• Under the Legs
• Inversions, Hyperloops, and Orbitals
• Waist-wraps, crossers and Meltdowns
• 4-Beat TTN and Butterfly Weaves

Accommodations

 

Accommodations for this workshop will not be in the standard LEDS accommodations, but on a compound that includes several houses and apartments with pool, jacuzzi, wireless internet access and BBQ.  All participants will be required to share a room with a maximum of 2 people per room (we'll place you with someone of the same sex, if need be), A/C, full kitchen and ocean view.  If requested, we can place you in a room with a friend or in a house with several friends (up to 4 total). 

Special Note:

This poi workshop will not be compatible with Spanish, surfing or Scuba classes, however, it will be possible to add yoga classes, M-F, for an additional $100 per week.  For those who would like to combine poi with Spanish, surfing or Scuba, regular poi classes from La Escuela Del Sol will continue to be taught apart from the workshop.  Longer stays may also be accommodated for students who would like to take the workshop and continue with LEDS classes either before or after workshop.  Please contact us for further information regarding your personal situation.
