Changes, Changes!

Pool from above

Hello everyone!  Long time no talk.  Sorry if I’ve been MIA lately but there have been A LOT of changes here at La Escuela Del Sol and I’m excited to fill you in on what we’ve been up to for essentially the past two years.  As many of you know, after eight years in Montezuma we moved our operation just seven kilometers south to a town called Cabuya.  Cabuya is famous for having the Cabo Blanco National Park, the first national park in all of Costa Rica and we now proudly sit just one kilometer away from it’s stunning beauty.

Nestled along the jungle fringed coast with a backdrop of mountains, Cabuya is essentially a small fishing community on the tip of the Nicoya peninsula. It’s the perfect place to wind down and settle into the local pace of life. Stroll along the hibiscus lined roads, watch the fishermen bring in their catch, beach comb along the deserted beaches, explore the nearby coves and rivers or simply relax in a hammock and enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds you. If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of your daily life, then Cabuya is the place for you. And we are so proud to call this place our new home.

We see La Escuela Del Sol as a place where you can go to get away from it all. A place where you can leave your daily worries at the proverbial door and JUST BE. If you want a party scene then we are not for you.  But if you want nature, relaxation and a place to bond with people who share similar interests, then look no further as you’ve found what you’re looking for. We are a place to go to just LIVE LIFE even if just for a week. This is a place to re-invigorate yourself. A place to have some peace. A place to find yourself.  We hear it all the time and we know we are just what many people need in these somewhat trying times.

Being essentially an extension of the Cabo Blanco national park, surrounded by more nature than you could ask for, we are a nature lovers dream.  Whether it’s the incredible animals (Howler and White face monkeys visit us every day), the beautiful blue morpho butterflies (too many to count), or the numerous gorgeous birds that grace us on a daily basis (we saw two Summer Tanagers, two Blue-Grey Tanagers, two Collard Aracaris and a Lineated Woodpecker just yesterday to name a few!) we are surrounded by more natural beauty than you can imagine. If you’re a “birder” you should do all you can to join us, as an afternoon watching the birds chirping from above our pool is a true sight to behold.

The reason for the move was twofold. When we first opened La Escuela Del Sol in Montezuma almost ten years ago we were essentially the first and only Spanish, Surfing and Yoga school in the vicinity.  There are now five of them in the same little town. Along with the rapid over-saturation of Montezuma, a few years ago the town of Cabuya lost it’s Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center after it was closed due to mismanagement. This was a real shame for the area, not only for our students who always saw our excursions to the old rescue center as one of the highlights of their trips, but truly for the injured animals of the area who now had to go over 4 hours to receive any sort of help if injured. Moving to Cabuya, and opening a new Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (Wild Sun Rescue Center) became my mission and that mission gets closer to completion every single day.

Over the past two years I’ve spent my entire life savings, along with loans from family to open this new Cabuya "campus” for LEDS as well as the Wild Sun Rescue Center, which is oh so close to being operational.  And I’m so proud of how far we’ve come. But truth be told we’re still adding new touches every single day as we strive to make LEDS and Wild Sun a true little slice of paradise. We’ve recently added a peaceful new yoga deck and a beautiful new infinity pool. And we’re on the precipice of finalizing our wildlife rescue permits.  All the while rescuing, rehabbing and releasing countless monkeys, kinkajous and wooly possums back into their natural habitats.  Little did we know how much work opening this new campus, while simultaneously opening Wild Sun would be but after two years we finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and can’t wait to share what we’ve created for you.

If you are a former student of La Escuela Del Sol and would like to return to see all of our changes and improvements, we’d be happy to offer you a 10% discount.  In addition, if you refer someone who joins us you can receive an additional 10% off or, if you prefer, the friends you recommend can use that 10% discount for themselves.  We think you will LOVE the new changes, will LOVE Cabuya and have no doubt this experience, though different from the one you had in Montezuma, will be another incredible life chapter for you and yours.

Pura Vida,

Jeremy Levine
